As longtime readers may recall, it was back in December of 2017 when I had raked up four bags of leaves and lined them up, military style, at the end of my driveway at my sidewalk. I had my positioned the four bags of leaves to be picked up by my yard guy who was coming the next day. As I sat in my house, doing some work, a Dallas County Code Enforcement person came and placed a fine slip on my door. There was no attempt to ring the bell and speak with me. My jeep was in the driveway, and it would not have taken any effort to ring the bell since they were at the front door taping a fine to it.
I shared the fine slip with y’all and was astonished that some faceless Code Enforcement Gestapo would charge me $339.30 for what? Four bags of leaves that they could have simply put into my driveway. However, I do find it perplexing that had I wanted repairs made to the sidewalk in front of my house, the cost would have to be paid by me. But, if I lined up bags of leaves at the end of my driveway on the same sidewalk, it is a fine?
Well, as you who know this story may remember, I refused to pay this onerous and intrusive exploitation of my individual rights. I see this as nothing more than governmental tyranny, a faceless bureaucrat imposing a tax against me — which is what a fine is — in violation of my 4th amendment rights. They could have easily knocked on the door, I would have answered. Or, if I had not been at home, left a notice advising me to do as I did, move the lined up bags of leaves just three feet into my driveway, where they would be picked up the subsequent day by the fella who does our yard.
And, so it goes: the tyranny has not ended, as I am now being threatened with a warrant for arrest and potential denial of my driver’s license renewal, or vehicle registration.
Yes, all over four bags of leaves lined up at my sidewalk.
Here is a copy of the letter I received today from Municipal Services Bureau in Austin, Texas. Figures. I called them and informed them that I am not paying this absurd — and, what I deem illegal — fine. When I called I got an answering service. Figures.
Let me reiterate to the Dallas Municipal Court and to the Municipal Services Bureau, I will not surrender to this tyranny. I will not give you one penny. I will not allow myself to be persecuted or prosecuted and would advise y’all to close out this case.
This, ladies and gents, is what happens when we allow progressive socialism to take root, even here in Texas. Two utterly absurd that this matter continues on after nearly two years, and threats to a retired US Army combat veteran, and former member of Congress, with jail, or denial of my driving privilege over four lined up bags of leaves. It is insane, .and, to think, we are allowing illegal immigrants to receive driver’s licenses in America. To the fine folks at the Municipal Services Bureau, I owe you nothing. I paid over the course of 22 years of service to this nation in uniform -- in Desert Shield/Storm, in Iraq, and Afghanistan. Click To Tweet
To the fine folks at the Municipal Services Bureau, I owe you nothing. I paid for putting out four lined up bags of leaves over the course of 22 years of service to this nation in uniform — in Desert Shield/Storm, in Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Y’all take care.
