Happy New Year: 2019 Year-End Wrap-Up

In Culture, Front Page, Topical by Allen West

Greetings, everyone!

It is the last day of 2019, and the last day of this decade. I decided to share some thoughts and reflections with y’all. But first, let me offer my sincere appreciation to all of you who follow The Old School Patriot and lend your support and prayers to me and our family.

This past decade was incredible for me. I was permitted to continue my oath of service to this nation as a member of the 112th US Congress. Even through the dark betrayal of being redistricted by Florida Republicans, and being targeted by the progressive socialist left, here we are still standing, fighting. God closed a door in Florida, and opened a greater one, allowing me to return to the Lone Star State of Texas. And now, we enter into a new decade, 2020, poised to become the next Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. That is how God works:

Romans 8:28 New International Version (NIV)
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure and honor to spend time sighting in and shooting my Remington Model 700 Long Range 300 Win Mag rifle. Former Texas Police Chief, Brian Harpole, took the time to coach, train, and mentor me to do something that was truly new to me, long-range rifle target shooting. Brian is part of the Shaffer Security Group and heads up the Consolidated Training Group which is located south of Weatherford, Texas. Even with a strong 20mph headwind, Brian effectively got me on target from 100-400 yards hitting steel silhouettes. I have a true sense of accomplishment. Yes, even an ol’ retired Army Artilleryman can improve his marksmanship!

However, it was what Brian gave me at the end that truly struck me. He gave me the Consolidated Training Group Challenge Coin, and on the back are these in inspiring words, along with the American and Texas flags.

“I Was Born for the Storm, and the Calm does not Suit Me.”

Those words remind me of the creed of the warrior in that we “move to the sound of the guns.” That is exactly what 71-year-old Jack Wilson did at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, just outside of Ft. Worth, this past Sunday. That is why I am so honored to be here, in Texas, “For a Time Such as This.”

There is a storm rising in America, and yes, it is here in Texas. Warriors were not made for peace, we were made to safeguard the peace, and confront those who would undermine our way of life, liberty, freedom, individual rights, and our ability to pursue our happiness.

As we enter into this new decade, into 2020, I am even more committed to stand and fight against progressive socialism and its threat to our America, our Texas.

God closed a door in Florida, but He prepared me for the coming storm that is rising in the Lone Star State. And, just like the 20mph headwind I faced at the shooting range yesterday, I will charge into the gusts of progressive socialism, relentlessly.

This is what we must all prepare to do going into 2020, into this next decade. This past decade we silently sat and watched one of the most prosperous nations in our hemisphere, Venezuela, succumb to the storm of socialism. Now, those who proclaimed and celebrated Hugo Chavez’s rise seek to do the same here in our America.

Let us find our resolve, recommit our efforts, and “mutually support each other as we pledge Our Lives, Our Fortunes, and Our Sacred Honor” to weather this storm, to Hold Texas, and Hold our Nation! We owe this to our children and grandchildren. We owe this to our forefathers and foremothers who left us this incredible blessing of liberty. They weathered the storm for us.

Only in America can a kid like me, born in a “Blacks Only” hospital can rise to these heights of achievement. Thank you all for allowing me to be a servant, a Guardian of this Republic, and for marching into the storm with me.

May God bless you all in this coming year, and decade. May God bless our home, these United States of America. And, may God Bless Texas!

Happy New Year, Y’all!
