A Question for the Revisionists Erasing Texas History

In Culture, Democrats, Front Page, History by Allen West

I once stood before the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Lee Park, here in Dallas, TX. The Dallas City Council almost unilaterally decided — with only one vote against, and one abstention — to tear down the statue. It was another victim of the insidious revisionist history campaign of the progressive socialist left to erase history in the United States of America. Truthfully, this has nothing to do with the Confederacy and the Civil War. As you know, there have been attacks against our Founding Fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson, as well as Christopher Columbus. Doggone, even Abraham Lincoln has seen some of the monuments dedicated to him defaced.

As stated, Lee’s statue was removed here in Texas. I know, it seems rather unconscionable, doesn’t it? But the left is descending upon red states and taking over the major cities. Dallas is home to a city council that is so inept that they had to have the state bail them out for the mismanagement of first responder pension plans. Here in Dallas, the mismanagement — ok, absence — of leadership from the Dallas City Council has greatly decimated the police force. Many in Texas are awakening to the fact that the left has established a very strong foothold in cities like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, El Paso, and the state capital of Austin. Then again, if the progressive socialist leftists have their way, we may not even be calling the capital Austin anymore.

As reported by The Hill:

“A new report from Austin, Texas’s Equity Office about existing Confederate monuments suggested changing the city’s name. The report identified several neighborhoods and 10 streets named in honor of the Confederacy or William Barton, a slave owner dubbed the “Daniel Boone of Texas,” that could be changed, The Austin American-Statesman reported Friday. Austin’s namesake, Stephen F. Austin – also referred to as the “father of Texas” – opposed efforts by Mexico to abolish slavery in the Tejas province, saying freed slaves would become “vagabonds, a nuisance and a menace,” the newspaper noted. Renaming the state’s capital would most likely require a citywide election because the name has been denoted in the city charter. The Equity Office report also identified a number of Confederate historical markers on city property that could be removed with the approval of the Texas Historical Commission and the Travis County Historical Commission, The Statesman noted. Two streets recognizing Confederate leaders were changed in Austin earlier this year, The Statesman reported.

The report acknowledged that the removal of Confederate monuments is controversial, as some people view such name changes and the removal of such statues as a threat to historical preservation.

“It is essential to acknowledge that societal values are fluid, and they can be and are different today compared to when our city made decisions to name and/or place these Confederate symbols in our community,” the Equity Office’s report notes.

“It is also important to acknowledge that nearly all monuments to the Confederacy and its leaders were erected without a true democratic process. People of color often had no voice and no opportunity to raise concerns about the city’s decision to honor Confederate leaders,” it continues.”

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel captured the leftist mentality with his quote, “never let a good crisis go to waste.” It is very obvious that the left has some secret planning cell that capitalizes on that theme at every possible opportunity. Since the 2015 church massacre at Emanuel AME in Charleston SC, killing nine, the left, aided by the far left Southern Poverty Law Center, has been successful in the removal of 113 Confederate monuments. Of course, the rallying cry was the fact that the shooter in the Emanuel AME church was a white supremacist who had pictures of himself draped in a confederate flag. Therefore, the left seized the moment to demonize a portion of our history, one that we do not celebrate, but rather need to learn from.

What I find interesting is the “cherry-picking” of the left when it comes to those they feel should be disparaged. How many of these folks in Austin, or members of the Texas Equity Office — a rather odd name — have ever been down to “Washington on the Brazo?s” So, what is next, change the name of Houston? Or how about Bowie? Then what about Crockett? Hmm, what shall we rename Austin? Obamaville? Nah, how about Alinsky, Texas? Yes, that is the ticket! No, I have a better suggestion: Marx, Texas? I know, I certainly have your blood boiling now, but this absurdity should already have accomplished that. All you Lumberjacks at Stephen F. Austin University, get ready, your new name will be Sheila Jackson Lee University.

Here is my counter to this Texas Equity Office report: how many Planned Parenthood clinics are there in the state of Texas? I know there is a really big office building right off I-45 in Houston with the words Planned Parenthood on it. Now, if the left — namely the Texas Equity Office — is recommending changing the name of the capital of Texas, based upon allegations of racism, then kick every Planned Parenthood office out of Texas as well. After all, Planned Parenthood was founded by a known white supremacist, a racist, and one who spoke at Ku Klux Klan rallies, Margaret Sanger. It was Sanger who referred to Blacks as “weeds” and “undesirables.” Since the Roe v. Wade SCOTUS decision in 1973, over 17M black babies have been murdered in the womb. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider of unborn baby deaths. How interesting that the most recent president of Planned Parenthood was Cecile Richards — daughter of former Texas Democrat governor, Ann Richards.

How many blacks was Stephen F. Austin responsible for killing? Or for that matter, General Robert E. Lee, who enabled many Black churches to be started in Virginia after the Civil War?

My hypothesis is that today’s progressive socialist left, the Democrat party, does not want us to know their history. The Democrat party is the party of white supremacy, slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, lynchings, Ku Klux Klan, poll taxes, literacy tests, and so on. That also includes a former Texas Democrat President who conducted unwarranted surveillance against Civil Rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It was Senator Lyndon Baines Johnson who came up with the Johnson Amendment that was instituted to prevent Black churches — preachers in the South — from being more politically involved, basically speaking out against the racist Democrat policies of segregation. Lest we forget, it was President Johnson who referred to blacks using the disparaging reference of the “n-word” aboard Air Force One, with southern Democrat Governors, while articulating his real objective for the Civil Rights legislation. It was same Texas Democrat President Johnson who created the Great Society programs that introduced the welfare state into the black communities resulting in economic enslavement and the destruction of the traditional black family.

I challenge the Texas Equity Office to respond to my inquiry: when will they shut down every Planned Parenthood office in Texas? If they are recommending the changing of the name of the capital of Texas, Austin, based upon “racism,” then I expect the same to be applied to Margaret Sanger, and her legacy organization. If there is one thing that is apparent, Sanger’s vision is alive and well. Sadly, Stephen F. Austin’s vision for Texas is being threatened.
