Standards? Only When they Provide Electoral Advantage

In Culture, Democrats, Front Page by Allen West

Greetings, everyone, from Rocky Mount, in Nash County, NC, where I have been spending time kicking off the school year here at North Carolina Wesleyan College, as their convocation speaker. This is a beautiful little campus, tucked away in tall pine trees. Being able to address young people on a college campus is a special treat. My words to the students are centered around the two most important days in a person’s life: the day one is born, and the day one learns why. I’m also sharing my top ten Bible verses for life. You can bet I won’t be invited to any progressive socialist campus, and be allowed to do the same. One must ask why? Why are the standards for a conservative speaker to appear on a liberal progressive campus different from others? Yes, it is just another example of leftist censorship of opposing thought, views, and perspectives. No worries, I will continue to spread the message instilled in me by my parents — registered Democrats — of faith, family, individual responsibility, quality education, and service to the nation. Those were the principles, standards, by which Buck and Snooks West raised me. Needless to say, they would hardly recognize, or be welcomed,  in today’s Democratic party. The standards they embraced are shunned by the progressive socialist leftists who control the Democrat (Socialist) party.

Standards? Why does the Democrat party need to maintain any standards, other than “by any means necessary?” Yes, I have a very telling example of that for which I speak.

As reported by the Washington Times:

“Minnesota Democrats are standing behind U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison and his bid for state attorney general, with the state party giving him an endorsement Saturday amid an allegation of domestic abuse from an ex-girlfriend. Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin said in a statement that Ellison “will be a champion for families and fight to hold powerful interests accountable.” Ellison received 326 votes, or 82 percent of delegates on hand at the party’s state executive committee meeting Saturday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. The endorsement comes after Ellison won the Democratic primary just days after Karen Monahan said Ellison had once dragged her off a bed by her feet while screaming obscenities. Ellison has denied the allegation. Monahan has said she has video footage of the 2016 encounter, but has declined to release it. Ellison says the video does not exist. The National Organization for Women has called for Ellison to quit the race in which Ellison faces Republican Doug Wardlow.”

Yep, you know what I am thinking. It appears that the #MeToo movement has limitations. Here is the Vice Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, a sitting US Representative — and candidate for the position of top law enforcement officer in the state of Minnesota — with an open allegation of domestic abuse, and the Democratic Party of Minnesota endorses him? You folks know good and well that if this man was a white Republican there would be mobs with pitchforks and torches. Let’s just flip the political party affiliation and ask ourselves: just how badly would a Republican be excoriated over the same? Well, can we say, Roy Moore? And how long ago were the allegations against Judge Moore, allegations which somehow disappeared after Doug Jones defeated Moore for the Alabama US Senate seat? It has to be very apparent to everyone that this is a blatant issue of double standards, then again, it is just a simple standard. Where are the voices of female Democrats speaking out against Ellison, or is this just another case of disregarding women and their allegations as with Bill Clinton? I suppose poor Al Franken was expendable, a fellow Minnesotan. I bet ol’ Al Franken is asking himself why the Democrat party didn’t use the same code of silence in his case?

Yes, I served with Keith Ellison, and my disagreements with him are many, based on policy. Most recently Ellison was seen with a shirt denouncing borders, and his is a congressional district that is ground zero for militant Islamic jihadist activity. But, these allegations brought against him should bring us all together, and not be based upon political affiliations. No Republican would be able to withstand the vicious torrent brought against them in such a matter. Can you say Rep. Trent Franks, who stepped down immediately? And there are others. So, how can anyone justify Keith Ellison remaining on the ballot, without being cleared of any wrongdoing? I find Ellison’s most recent choice of words quite interesting: “Despite everything, I still care about her as a person and I don’t want anybody to say anything insulting to her at all,” Ellison said. “I want you know that I am committed to listening to all of the voices of every victim of abuse. I recognize and hear those voices of so many women who were silenced when they needed to be heard.”

It does not appear, to me, that Ellison is strongly denying any physical abuse of Karen Monahan. Now, if I were to offer the inquiry of why was this not reported back when it occurred, and where the video is, I would be demonized for not being sympathetic to Ms. Monahan. Yes, our standard of justice is innocent until proven guilty. However, that standard never seems to apply to Republican political officials. Heck, look at the treatment of Paul Manafort. Tell me, when was the last time you heard of someone charged with tax fraud, from 20 years ago, be placed in solitary confinement? Hmm, how many millions does Al Sharpton owe the IRS? Maybe ol’ Al Sharpton should use those defrauded funds for spelling lessons.

Let’s be honest: standards for the left are like the moving football from the Peanuts comic strip. Standards are only applicable when they provide an electoral advantage for the leftists against their opposition. This is so very obvious and undeniable. The Minnesota Democrat party endorsed a man to be their Attorney General that has open allegations of physical abuse levied against him by a woman. What matters the most to the Democrats is not standards of decency, just the attainment of power, and control.
